Went to the Ricki Lake Show taping today. Was one of my favorite topics too! "Wow, Look At Me Now!" Basically, amazing transformations. I, however, have never been a big fan of the Ricki Lake Show. I only went because my roomie happened to have tickets she wouldn't be using. I myself prefer the Maury show.
Would make some sort of observation on class differences and Portguese, but am too tired for yelling and screaming for something I didn't enjoy after the first ten minutes. The people on the show were really bad actors. Either that, or they were nervous. Or they had rehearsed everything already. But baaad. What else has happened in the past week? I saw Die Frau ohne Schatten last Friday at the Met. Suzanne and I were late, so we had to watch the opera in the viewing room for the first hour and fifteen minutes. I fell asleep. The set was very futuristic, with mirrors, flashy lights, and what looked like bacterial slides showing in the background. It was a big no no for me. I prefer the classic.. I liked Marriage of Figaro much better. Perhaps it was also the lack of previous exposure to DFoS--the music was beautiful, but unfamiliar. And you know humans prefer the known to the unknown. And well, the rest of the days passed like all the others do. Ooh, and as for that one juicy bit of gossip I discovered--well, good luck. I can't wait to get home!

Four new books to read! YA books too--I have discovered that adult books are really quite dull and not as well written. There are exceptions to this rule, but for the most part, YA writers have to be much more careful and consequently, produce a higher quality result.
On a more frivolous note: instead of writing my paper last night, Marie and I looked for pictures of hot guys to put on my desk and I now have Keanu Reeves, Michael Vartan, Hugh Grant, two random models, and Oliver Martinez. So I now enjoy being at my desk that much more. Going to the opera Friday night!

I organized my desk today and found old programs. I've been to quite a few shows actually! One, in particular, caught my attention. I realized that I haven't written about Naked Boys Singing, which was quite an experience.
Halloween was the day my voucher to NBS expired, so I took a cab on over. I was "lucky" enough to get a front row seat, one of five. So I got the close-up look of EVERYTHING. It was unbelievably awkward, especially when they would come right up to the edge of the stage. I didn't know where to rest my eyes. So, I thought I ought to write about that before I forget about it in the future. Yesterday night I saw Ravi Shankar perform with his daughter, Anoushka! The whole history of Shankar and Norah Jones (Anoushka's half sister) is very fishy--I can't find a definite story of what happened, whether Shankar left Norah and her mother to marry another woman, or if Norah's mom left him... etc. Very shady. The performance, however, was beautiful. So soothing. I fell asleep several times. Completely sold out too. Had dinner last night in Chinatown for $6. Oh yeah. Saw one of my fave authors from middle school. I can't wait to read her new book. I hope y'all read the Smoking Gun cause there's a hella lot of good stuff there. For something creepy: Green River Killer confession. For something just plain weird: Man Jailed in Female Prison. For someting salacious: Paris Sued for Slander. Damn good stuff. Now off to "work."

I feel the most homework free I've ever felt in a long time! Even though I have a World Cultures paper to write for tomorrow morning and two Writing the Essay assignments--I know that the end is near! Especially since my LAST Supreme Court paper is due!!! That is, until the final. But the end of frenetic Sunday nights and Mondays is so close I can taste/smell/see/touch/hear it (I just noticed that people use all senses when talking of 'so close that..' or at least all of them work!)
And then.. in two weeks I'll be hoooooooome! Glorious home where I can cook! And use herbs! And.. see my people! Lovely lovely. Read two books from library in a day and am now tackling Martha Inc., biography of Martha Stewart. Very very interesting thus far actually.

So yesterday was a wasted day.
I woke up, showered, and was just about ready to go to class when my nose started bleeding. Ah yes, warning for those who are squeamish about blood: perhaps you oughtn't read this entry. It kept bleeding, so I went to the Health Center (even though I've had plenty before and been able to take care of them myself) so that I could get an excuse from class. The doctor who saw me was really worried and referred me to an ENT specialist. I was leery of this at first, as my nose is tres precious to me (well, isn't everyone's to everyone?) but I mean that when I have a stuffy nose, I can't function. I get extremely frustrated. But I kept bleeding, so I thought I might as well. Took a cab to 2nd Ave and saw him. He kept spraying things up my nose and trying to cauterize the veins. Finally, after I sneezed 20 times, disrupting his work, he stuffed packing up my nose and told me to go back on Friday. This packing did NOT suit me well. Luckily I have no classes after my morning one on Tuesdays, so Maliha made me sit and watch TV (I had a piece of gauze taped over my nose and it looked like I had gotten a nose job or some such surgery). It was entirely awful. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. You know that feeling right before you sneeze? Yeah, imagine that for six hours. I kept trying to call my doctor, to see if I could take out the packing, as I kept bleeding through the gauze that was over my nose. Couldn't reach him. FOR SIX HOURS! I called about five times. Each time the guy who answered said he would page the doctor. Doctor never returned my pages. Not even this morning! At about 9:30 p.m. I started panicking. I had been calm the entire day, all through having packing up my nose, gauze taped over, sneezing, bleeding. But I started worrying. Wouldn't you also, if your nose had been bleeding for 13 hours? I talked to my RA and she and Andrew accompanied me to the NYU Medical Center ER. Which was pretty pointless, because all the doctor there did was follow my orders to take out my packing and let me stop the nosebleed on my own, which I did within an hour. So, I lost blood needlessly through the entire day, couldn't taste anything needlessly, felt lethargic and dizzy for nothing. I am so disillusioned by the medical community right now.

Man, my old posts are so interesting! I was so much more of a 'blogger' in the literal sense back then. Found this site again--too cool!
High school sounds so much more interesting when you're looking backwards. Turns out I procrastinated a whole lot and still managed all right.
Okay, new look! Aren't you proud? Instead of doing my Supreme Court paper and edit my essay, I devoted an afternoon to creating this highly simplistic layout that has many a hidden link.
Here's the 10 cent tour: clicking on the leaves will take you to foto-graphie, osservato, and links. Clicking on 'icherri' will bring you back to the index, should you choose to get lost in my archives, which are newly republished and spiffy! You can access the archives by clicking on the orange/red flower on the left. Whew! Now go have fun kids!

No way! Apparently Sarah McLachlan was there too! Which makes sense, as I will hopefully be seeing her tomorrow at B&N.
It still doesn't feel quite real. Even when they're right in front of you, and you're talking to them, it all has some surreal quality--you feel as though you are in a movie, or on TV. By the way, for those of you STILL confused after seeing the photographs, I went to the Love Actually premiere (no, I didn't get to see the movie with them) and met up with a humongoid amount of celebrities. I really really really love this New York deal. Plenty more of these to come too! Orlando Bloom will have to come eventually.... I have a whole four years to wait! So have new free thing to do! Note to self: next time, wear cushy shoes. And take more pictures instead of going for autographs. My process at the premiere was to ask for an autograph, then take the picture while they were signing. Rather bulky and inconvenient, especially if they didn't stop for an autograph.

05 November 2003
Went to Magnolia and got another cupcake after tres mal french test.
Grey days highlight fall, they bring out the vivid red berries against the wet leaves, the musty fresh smell of scattered leaves. So many photographic opportunities arise just from walking around my area. If only I could just, oh, just show you all the things I see. The man saying, "I'm so fucked up, officer!" as he's handcuffed. The countless little fluffy dogs. The magnificent architecture, the brownstones. A camera is so bulky when you feel you cannot capture anything but with your own eyes.
04 November 2003
Wrote out schedule for self to follow today; have tres grand amount of work. Am following rather faithfully, except happiness is tainted by fact that Supreme Court case is proving difficult to outline. Frown!
But high points of day so far: Lecture in World Cultures was actually interesting--had guest speaker. Got library card! Have always needed to belong to public library, as library is practically second home back in Minnesota. And! Have asked for volunteering opportunities at library, to kill three birds with one stone (more structure in life, 15 community service hours for scholars program, and love of library). Can't wait till they call! Have another 12 minutes before next scheduled work.
03 November 2003
Wow, only 2 more Supreme Court papers to write. Will be so strange having Sunday nights free. And less Monday stress. Lots to do, don't even know where to start! Am going to bed early. Working all tomorrow. Must! Must must!
Colin Firth is going to be coming Thursday!!! Premiere of Love Actually Thursday too!!!!!
