Restaurant AND Tax Free Week here in the Big Apple! What's a girl with a credit card to do?

Am v. excited for Wed dinner at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill which is right near here. And! Next Friday, Mikey and I are going to try and get into Le Cirque 2000, which is tres expensive and apparently very good, though you wouldn't be able to tell from its website... smirk smirk. I can feel some sort of condescension over it because its website is so hideous!
The other restaurants I've been checking out intimidate me. I am terrified of appearing nouveau gauche, if that is the correct term. Perhaps this stems partly from how I personally see Asian people in nice restaurants. I see them either misunderstanding English, being obnoxious, and/or I feel like I see other people giving them the condescending "Oh, we'll take your money, but we won't ever respect you," sort of deal. This causes me to scurry into the comforting E.J.'s Luncheonette, or its equivalent, with its shiny diner decor that could never cause anyone to feel underdresssed and its nice waitstaff who always smile at me.
Le sigh. Someday I will feel confident enough.
